I take the opportunity to proudly announce the registration of Uttarayan Cooperative for Renewable Energy (UCRE), Nainital District in the State of Uttarakhand. It is a big milestone not only for SCALE but also for the Co-operative industry as a whole. UCRE will not only manufacture, sell & support the solar equipments but will also promote solar energy in various needy areas of Uttarakhand.
The idea for the renewable energy cooperative was born in the year 2011-2012 after looking at the dire need of electricity in rural & semi-urban areas of Uttarakhand. We found that the paucity of the power was not only impacting the quality of lives of such people but was also contributing to the deforestation problem in this region.
UCRE has been sponsored by SCALE & IDRF. We express our sincere appreciation to Mr. Vinod Prakash & IDRF for their continued encouragement to SCALE. Without donors like them, we could not have carried out projects which address the basic needs of the poor people like livelihood, environment & rehabilitation.
SCALE is an ISO certified NGO (Non Government Organization) which has been primarily working in Uttarakhand for the last 12 years. I am happy to inform you that SCALE has already trained 70 technicians in solar equipments through partners like UNDP( United Nations Development Program) & Dr.Gon Choudhury, a Green Oscar winner from NBIRT, Kolkata.
This initiative was taken in December 2013, after SCALE had done intensive disaster management program in District Pithoragarh & Almora. SCALE is proud to mention that our team consisting of Scientists from Cornell University has indigenously designed its own Solar Lanterns & Solar Home Lights. Besides, SCALE is at the testing stage for Solar Inverters along with Solar Street Lights. Today, our solar lights are burning bright at remote homes situated near India-China border. These people never had electricity at their homes.
This is only the beginning of our enterprise. Now we are confident that UCRE will not only become a sustainable organization but will offer to the needy, value for money- affordable, modular, serviceable and high quality solar equipments.
The quality of the solar equipments will match the best in the market. Aftermath of flood destruction in Uttarakhand, SCALE has already donated in December, 2013, about 160 such solar lanterns, including 4 mobile chargers to Kanar Village in Dharchula Block, Pithoragarh District. We have also set up a service centre at Baram Village in Dharchula. Besides, we have provided 20 such lanterns to poor residents in Sooree Village in Almora District and also have our service network at the village. Here, it has weathered snowstorm for 4 days by illuminating the recipient house for 4-5 hours daily, without charging.
We are hoping that we can take forward this initiative to other districts of Uttarakhand. After all, what does a needy user want, a good quality product with local service and attractive prices! SCALE is confident that by bringing lights to the needy homes, we can power their dreams for living with dignity & happiness.
There may be over 100,000 homes in Uttarakhand alone which needs the solar intervention. To achieve this, we need the assistance from all. Your participation in our mission will be the key to its success. Kindly do come forward to donate. Our small contribution like this will certainly bring some cheer and hope to their lives.
