Appeal Letter For Women Empowerment

During the last 15 years, SCALE has been working extensively and tirelessly towards the upliftment of the marginalized sections of society. In a significant initiative for providing dignity of life and power of education to the needy children, it has donated 2,000 school uniforms with shoes and socks to 40 Anganwadi schools. With parents earning meagre monthly wages between US$ 60-75, they have not been able to afford their children’s school aspirations or school uniforms. On the contrary, many of these children help their parents on agricultural fields to augment their family income.

SCALE has set its 2017-18 mission to cover 500 Anganwadi Schools in Uttarakhand with 12,500 school uniforms, socks and shoes for such children. These uniforms are being stitched by women from the Alambana Self-Help Group, a centre set up by SCALE. Over 5,500 young girls and women have benefitted from various SCALE projects in tailoring, renewable energy and computer literacy. SCALE has always believed that sheer skill development is not enough, unless it is backed by income generation initiatives. Alambana Women Centre is a step in that direction.

SCALE is looking for donors to help accomplish this mission. The cost of each set of two uniforms, with two pairs of socks and shoes is Rs 1000. But each set brings joy, zest and motivation to the life of a child. Once they received this set, SCALE witnessed an increase in attendance of 40-50% across schools and a changed perspective of the parents. The cost includes the charges of stitching by the self-help group.

SCALE is looking for assistance from like-minded people and organizations. In case you identify yourself with our vision towards empowering more rural women and providing dignity of life to under-privileged children, do come forth with your support. SCALE is committed to providing its donors photographs and details of the beneficiaries of its initiatives.
