SCALE is an FCRA and ISO-certified NGO, established on January 9, 2002. Set up by experienced professionals, with the mission to deliver improved quality of life to the marginalized sections of India, SCALE has successfully implemented several projects in the areas of environment, education and women empowerment.

Here is an account of some of our programs and the difference they have made to the lives of the rural poor in parts of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh:

Solar cooperatives: SCALE has presumably set up India’s first two solar cooperatives — Uttarayan Cooperative for Renewable Energy (UCRE), set up in Uttarakhand, and Uttarayan Cooperative for Renewable Energy and Environment (UCREE) in Uttar Pradesh. Apart from these cooperatives, we have solar-lighted 4,000 rural houses in Uttarakhand. We are delighted to mention that both the cooperatives have become sustainable in a very short time.

Solar initiatives in border areas: In its unique mission of solar lighting border villages, SCALE has donated solar lights to 40 villages, three ITBP bases on India-China border and 23 villages on India-Nepal border through Sashastra Seema Bal. In 2017-18, SCALE intends to light up another 200 border villages.

Manufacturing and repair of solar production: SCALE has carried out more than 25 capacity building programs and trained over 300 unemployed youth in the manufacturing and repair of solar products. A majority of these trained youth are today employed in electrical and electronic industry.

SCALE’s innovative technology: We are proud to mention that SCALE has developed its own product design and innovative technology. It offers value for money to its users. SCALE has brought this technology to the most remote rural areas of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. It uses the best quality components such as OSRAM LED bulbs, Exide batteries, high-end Moser Baer or Vikram Solar Panels and NG switches.

Alambana, our self-help group: SCALE has recently set up Alambana Centre, a women’s self-help group (SHG) in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand. These women have been provided both basic and advance training by SCALE in stitching school uniforms, ladies suits and many other beautiful gift items. Today, these women are able to earn a decent living, by stitching for their village folks as well as by making school uniforms for SCALE’s Anganwadi initiative. SCALE has already donated 2,000 school uniforms to 40 Anganwadi schools in Uttarakhand. It plans to donate 6,250 school uniforms to cover 250 Anganwadi schools in 2017-18.

Skill-based programs that provide livelihood: Our initiatives in the areas of computer literacy, tailoring, optical fibre and computer hardware have provided livelihood to more than 3,000 youth from Uttarakhand.

School education: SCALE has been actively working in school education for the last 10 years in order to provide a better future to marginalized children. We have managed to achieve this by improving the quality of teaching, setting up science and computer laboratories and through its recent initiatives such as smart learning and e-learning.

Computer and science laboratories: Over 10,000 school children have benefitted from our computer and science laboratories set up in the neediest of schools. This includes schools along the India-China border. SCALE’s goal for 2017-18 is to provide smart learning and e-learning to an additional 15 rural schools in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.

Our partners: SCALE has been closely working with corporates like, Acer, Mahindra & Mahindra, Nokia, Mistral Solutions, Maruti Suzuki, Human Development Foundation and USA-based companies like AgreeYa Solutions, Robin Raina Foundations, IDRF and GXT Green.

SCALE looks forward to your continued support. We hope that together we can make a difference in providing quality of life to the needy sections of our society.
